Book Signing with Benoit Denizet-Lewis

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

InTheRooms founder RT and resident tech nerd Alex Newman went out to Barnes and Noble in Fort Lauderdale, FL to show support for Benoit Denizet-Lewis and his new book, America Anonymous.

Benoit spoke about bridging the gap between recovery fellowships, and about taking a public stand for recovery. The book, America Anonymous, follows the lives of 8 people with different addictions, and shows that no matter what the substance; whether it be drugs, alcohol, food, sex, or gambling - that addiction is the same disease across the board.

Benoit also spoke about the war on drugs and how some believe that we should put the focus on treatment of addiction rather than trying to stop the importing of illegal drugs into the US.

Benoit’s message was very powerful - we thank him for his book and his words, and what he is trying to accomplish by publishing America Anonymous.

ITR New Features: Forums and Discussions

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

InTheRooms is pleased to announce the addition of Forums to our site. Please take a look at our forums section and post your experience, strength and hope on the spiritual principles and steps. The forums are not fellowship related; they are spiritually related! The forums are also a great place to post pictures and videos found across the web.

In addition to forums, we also made minor changes to the discussions. We now are able to easily find older discussions, and see which discussions are the most popular on the site.

As always, please send your feedback to  support at intherooms.com so we can continue to make InTheRooms the greatest online global recovery community.

Love,
The InTheRooms Team

Book Club: America Anonymous (update)

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

“America Anonymous” by Benoit Denizet-Lewis is the story of eight men and women from around the country—including a grandmother, a college student, a bodybuilder, a housewife, and a drug and gambling addiction counselor—struggling to recover from addictions. For nearly three years, he immersed himself in their lives as they battled drug and alcohol abuse, overeating, and compulsive gambling and sexuality. Alternating with their stories is his account of his recovery from sexual addiction and his examination of our culture of addiction, where we obsessively search for new and innovative ways to escape the reality of the present moment and make ourselves feel “better.”

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Christopher Kennedy Lawford first explored the sensitive issues of substance abuse and addiction in his New York Times bestseller Symptoms of Withdrawal, and now, in MOMENTS OF CLARITY, with a foreword by his cousin U.S. Congressman Patrick Kennedy, Lawford discusses his—and others’—“moments of clarity,” when they experienced a dramatic shift in time and perception that launched them on the path from addiction to recovery.
