In The Rooms, The Song, nominated for a 2009 Prism Award

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Submitted by RT on Feb 9, 2009

We’re pleased to announce that our song, In The Rooms by Richie Supa has been nominated for song of the year at the 13th Annual 2009 Prism Awards at the Beverly Hills Hotel, in Beverly Hills, CA. We would like to thank our loyal ITR members for downloading and listening.

The Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. (EIC) annually presents, in collaboration with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), FX Network, and News Corporation, the PRISM Awards™, a nationally-televised awards show recognizing the accurate depiction of drug, alcohol and tobacco use and addiction in film, television, interactive, music, DVD, and comic book entertainment. Established in 1997, the PRISM Awards honor productions that are not only powerfully entertaining, but realistically show substance abuse and addiction, as well as mental health issues.

PRISM Award submissions are put through a rigorous nomination review process, judged by members of the creative community and scientific experts for entertainment value, accessibility of the message, and scientific accuracy. The production in each category that best exemplifies these three objectives is presented with a PRISM trophy at the annual event, held in Hollywood.

The PRISM Awards also has categories to recognize actors for their outstanding performances of substance abuse, addiction and mental illness onscreen, in television and feature films. These categories expand our celebration of “the art of making a difference” to include those who use themselves and their performances as instruments to show the real-life effects of drugs, alcohol and tobacco, and mental illness on the lives of the characters they play and their loved ones.

The PRISM Awards program features several special PRISM Awards categories, such as the Larry Stewart Leadership & Inspiration Award. Each year, the Larry Stewart Award is presented to an entertainment industry professional for leading and inspiring the industry to make a difference on drug, alcohol, tobacco, and/or mental health issues. The award is named for founding EIC Board Director Larry Stewart, a veteran writer/producer/director who was a leading light in EIC’s efforts to collaborate with the entertainment industry on promoting and facilitating the accurate depiction of health and social issues.

EIC also presents a PRISM Heritage Award for the creators and/or stars of productions released before the founding of the PRISM Awards that accurately portray drug, alcohol and tobacco use and addiction, as well as mental health issues. The Heritage Award honors the legacy of accurate depiction, and spotlights creators and performers who demonstrated excellence in portraying these issues before the advent of the PRISM Awards.

The PRISM Awards encourage creators to make the most of their rights to free creative expression, while at the same time showing the reality of these health issues. As a part of the industry, EIC never wants to inhibit the creative process; however, we take pride in being the first to applaud creators who use their power and influence over their audiences wisely and responsibly, informing them while at the same time entertaining them. This is what we refer to as “the art of making a difference,” and that is what EIC and the PRISM Awards are all about.

Book Club: America Anonymous (update)

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

“America Anonymous” by Benoit Denizet-Lewis is the story of eight men and women from around the country—including a grandmother, a college student, a bodybuilder, a housewife, and a drug and gambling addiction counselor—struggling to recover from addictions. For nearly three years, he immersed himself in their lives as they battled drug and alcohol abuse, overeating, and compulsive gambling and sexuality. Alternating with their stories is his account of his recovery from sexual addiction and his examination of our culture of addiction, where we obsessively search for new and innovative ways to escape the reality of the present moment and make ourselves feel “better.”

New Features on InTheRooms 12/10/08

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Hi Everyone! We’d like to tell you about a few new features that we recently added to InTheRooms.

The InTheRooms Newsletter, The HITCH, is a place where InTheRooms users can submit community news and events, see upcoming birthdays and anniversaries, and read about what’s going on in our online community. We here at InTheRooms invite you to submit stories to our newsletter about anything related to recovery and our community, and we will gladly include them.

In addition, we have redesigned the daily meditations section to include multiple books, from all fellowships and all walks of life. In the Daily Meditations section, you can read today’s meditation, and add sets of meditations to your profile that will rotate every day. You can also write your own daily meditation, and when we have a year’s worth we’ll add it to our book list. We are adding new books every week, so keep checking it out. If you have any suggestions for meditation books you would like to see on there, please let us know!

A lot of people on the site have been discussing new and upcoming features for InTheRooms. We want to share with you what’s coming soon.

1) Better Discussions: The ability to add pictures, video, and more to discussions, in addition to additional organization and clarity to how discussions are accessed on the site.

2) InTheRooms iPhone App: In the coming weeks, we will be releasing an application for the iPhone, distributed through iTunes and the App Store. Access all of your favorite ITR features from the palm of your hand! After this, we will be working on a mobile version of the site that will work on (mostly) all phones that can access the mobile internet.

3) Blogs: Users will be able to start their own blogs on InTheRooms, and share their journey with our online community

And further down the pipeline…

3) Instant Messaging: Talk to your friends instantly on InTheRooms, possibly groups of people and video chat as well.

4) Videos: The ability to upload videos, and possibly record videos directly to the site - for discussions, groups, profile, mail, and more.

And much much more…

Just as in our recovery we must constantly strive to better ourselves, so it is on InTheRooms. We thank you, love you, and are grateful you’re on this amazing journey with us.

Thanks,

  3. Submit your information, then click on the confirmation link in your email (If you don’t see the email, check your spam folder)

Things To Remember when Filling out your Profile

  • Become part of the group: Uploading your picture is very important and helps your friends find you easily.  You can upload a profile picture by choosing “Edit Profile” on your profile page, and then clicking on the “Picture” Link.
  • Find people with similar interests: When filling out your profile descriptions, be sure to put a comma in between your interests, so that way you can easily find other members with similar interests, right from your own profile.  An example would be, instead of writing “I like to go skiing and horseback riding” you would write “skiing, horseback riding”.  This is not required, however it will make your experience more rewarding.
  • Share with the group: In the speaker tapes library, you can add tags to tapes you have listened to, in order to help others find what they’re looking for.  You can also click on the title of the speaker tape, and start a discussion related to that tape.  If you have a favorite speaker tape of your own, you can upload it to the community and share it with all of your friends.
  • Keep our community clean: Any comments on the site can be flagged as inappropriate.  Just put your mouse over the comment and click on the red flag, and the site administrator will look into it.  (Please flag with spiritual intentions only.)
  • Give Back: Please help us make this community better!  If you’re having trouble, or have any comments, questions, or concerns, please email support@intherooms.com and our friendly staff will get back with you asap.

If you’re still having trouble, go to http://www.intherooms.com/help or email support@intherooms.com

Thank you,
