AA / NA World Service Symposium

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Submitted by MrClean and RT on April 1, 2009

For the first time ever, an emergency meeting has been called between the world service boards of both Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous to be held on July 4th, 2009 in a neutral, undisclosed location in Geneva, Switzerland, to discuss the possible impact of merging the 2 fellowships into a single international recovery community.

Members of each party have decided that in the interest of promoting world unity in recovery, that it may be in the best interest of all Alcoholics and Drug Addicts globally to finally accept the fact that we are all the same.

Possible outcomes include:

1) Requiring the strategic merging of fellowship literature: “The Big and Basic Book of Alcoholics and Addicts”

2) Removal of certain aspects of the literature: ex. “Alcohol is a drug” no longer need apply since the fellowship literature will merge, “Being rocketed to the 4th dimension” is a trigger statement for junkies, etc.

3) Chips and Keytags will be renamed to “Keychips” and will become a single universal symbol of time in recovery.

4) Changing the fellowship names to: ‘A&NA’, ‘N&AA’, or just simply ‘A’

5) Members will refer to themselves as “Clean and Sober” in all meetings, and any mention of alcohol or drugs will be absolutely tolerated across the board.

In addition, the principals of InTheRooms have been independently meeting with both world service organizations about the possibility of including social media platforms to distribute and develop the new fellowship literature, all based on contributions, or a WikiCovery of sorts.  This addition will bring the fellowship to the forefront of the new age of communication, a global world where a burning desire can be had at 3AM in a middle american suburb, and be answered moments later from a recovering addict or alcoholic across the globe, regardless of time zone.

Representatives from each fellowship have asked InTheRooms to share this message with you, that they wish to disclaim that their primary purpose in these talks will be to preserve the sanctity of each fellowship, while discussing ways of moving forward in an ever changing global crisis of alcoholism and addiction.

InTheRooms plans to attend the consortium and has decided to take 2 members of the site along with them as attache’s to the community. If you are interested in being a part of this cataclysmic world changing event, please leave a comment below and we will get back to you.

Finally, in a completely separate issue 100% unrelated to this article and it’s contents, InTheRooms would like to wish its members a Happy April Fool’s day.

Thank you,
The InTheRooms Team

Predators InTheRooms

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Submitted by MrClean on March 31, 2009

InTheRooms is now officially the fastest growing recovery site on the Internet worldwide, bar none! We owe that success to you, our members, and we are deeply grateful. One of the negatives of being so successful is that it can attract predators. These predators come in all shapes and sizes and as long as you’re careful there’s nothing to be afraid of. A couple of things to always keep in mind.

Don’t give out your phone number or E-mail address- although it’s very tempting to have that phone conversation with the person you just met online DON’T! Yeah it’s “a God thing” that you both love sushi but do you really want to give out that number or personal e-mail address to someone you don’t really know at all?

Don’t EVER give someone access to your Bank Account! Yeah I know that they told you that they are deposed Royalty from Nigeria and are willing to share their fortune with you if they only had a SAFE place to put their funds…wait! Why not put it in YOUR account! No doubt that you’ve been the very paragon of banking virtues during your active addiction! We’ve also had scammers claim to be dying of cancer and need your funds to survive the next couple of months until they die. I hate to be cold, but there are lot’s of these scammers around and I wouldn’t give ANY money to strangers on a website!

Don’t go to strange websites that you get in a personal message…even though her name is Lola, she’s 19 and gorgeous, saw your profile picture, and can’t LIVE without showing you what she looks like naked on her webcam!

What should you do when you encounter these messages? Just let us know about it!  MrClean, RT and TheDotMack will be happy to banish these people to Cyber Hell. Once they are banned, they can’t come back!

We’ve been getting rid of them as quickly as possible but with your help we can make it even faster!  We are also working on a new feature to help with reporting these issues.

Again, the good news is that if we weren’t so successful, we wouldn’t be having this problem. We owe that success to YOU! We want you all to have a SAFE place to enjoy your recovery!

Sincerely, MrClean, RT, TheDotMack

Book of The Month: Face it and Fix it

World-renowned interventionist Ken Seeley, one of the hosts of A&E’s hit television series Intervention, has spent the past twenty years helping people and their families deal with and overcome life-threatening addictions. His clients have ranged from the homeless to multimillionaires, each needing professional help with every problem imaginable, including alcoholism, drug dependency, excessive gambling, sexual addiction, abusive behavior, and mental disorders. A few years into his career, Ken realized that the one common characteristic with each of his clients was denial. He has since built his success on a proven program for pinpointing and dealing with this core issue.

Whether coping with a severe or a soft addiction, a life-threatening situation, or just an impediment to true happiness, we’re all in denial about something. It might be small and seemingly innocent, such as the fact that you’re not trying to excel in your job as much as you could or should be. Or it could be much larger and even potentially lethal, such as a full-blown addiction that at this very moment is destroying your life. The truth is, no matter who you are, no matter how small or large your problems may seem, denial is holding you back from living your life to the fullest.

Denial is the number one symptom of addiction. It’s the mask that lets addicts ignore and avoid the consequences of their actions. But what most people don’t know is that denial is also the fuel that creates an addiction in the first place—as well as nearly every other disorder, behavior, and habit that can negatively affect your life. In Face It and Fix It, Seeley leads readers through a three-step process to remove life damaging denial in order to live balanced and healthy lives. He helps readers first to identify life-damaging behaviors; next he gives the tools necessary to break down the walls that denial builds up over time; and finally he shows how to maintain balanced lives and relationships.

Whether you’re looking for help for someone you love or struggling with an addiction of your own, Face It and Fix It will leave you with a greater sense of self-awareness and the skills you need to both improve your relationships and to live the life you deserve.

KEN SEELEY, a featured expert on A&E’s hit show Intervention, has remained involved, professionally and personally, in recovery since 1989. Seeley saves lives every  day as the founder and CEO  of Intervention911.com. His organization is one of the most prominent and successful private intervention services in the country. His knowledge and unique perspective have also made him an addiction and intervention expert for the media, where he’s a regular contributor for CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC, and many other stations. Seeley, BRI II, is also certified by the National Association of Drug and Alcohol Interventionists and is a preferred interventionist for the Betty Ford Center.
