Deepen Your Capacity to Live Free from Addiction - and from Self and Selfishness

“Twelve Step recovery is much more than a way to escape the clutches of addictive behaviors. Twelve Step recovery is about freeing yourself from playing God, and since almost everyone is addicted to this game, Twelve Step recovery is something from which everyone can benefit.”

—from the Introduction

In this hope-filled approach to spiritual and personal growth, the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous are uniquely interpreted to speak to everyone seeking a freer and more God-centered life. This special rendering makes them relevant to those suffering from specific addictions—alcohol, drugs, gambling, food, sex, shopping—as well as the general addictions we wrestle with daily, such as anger, greed, and selfishness.

Rami Shapiro describes his personal experience working the Twelve Steps as adapted by Overeaters Anonymous and shares anecdotes from many people working the Steps in a variety of settings. Drawing on the insights and practices of Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, and Islam, he offers supplementary practices from different religious traditions to help you move more deeply into the universal spirituality of the Twelve Step system.

The Rally For Recovery! Welcomes 3 New Sponsors

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Submitted by RT on June 23, 2009

The 2009 Rally for Recovery! on September 12, 2009 in Bicentennial Park, is pleased to announce 3 new sponsors of this groundbreaking event.

1) The Village (Miami, FL)

“The Village was founded in 1973 as a not-for-profit agency and was the first residential treatment program licensed by the State of Florida, Department of Children and Families. Remembering names like “dope fiends” and other, less flattering terminology reminds us of the tremendous change and growth that have taken place, both in terms of programs and services offered, and in the technological advancement of the field of addiction. For those who remember early philosophies of the Therapeutic Community, for instance, The Village once believed that it was okay to teach “responsible drinking”- yet was the first of the U.S. Therapeutic Communities to announce that total abstinence from all psycho-active drugs, including alcohol, was a key to success!

Today, The Village philosophy is to utilize the best science-based information to interpret our mission and to serve our clients. Addiction is a chronic, relapsing disease and is, many times, accompanied by mental disorders and other behavioral problems that may or may not be the direct result of the addiction. “

2) House of Hope & Stepping Stones (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)

“IT HAS  been said that the longest journey begins with the first step. For the House of Hope and Stepping Stones, a charitable organization, the journey began in January 1968 with two buildings housing a total of 18 men and 12 women.

From that mustard seed-like beginning a beautiful tradition of people helping people has grown to eight buildings treating 92 men and 38 women with substance dependence and co-occurring disorders in two gender specific facilities.

The House of Hope and Stepping Stones offers the needed help in a residential treatment setting for persons with chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. We provide a holistic approach utilizing best practices in the field of addiction and integrated behavioral health that enhances the recovery process.

Treatment is the first step in a life-long process. We believe that treating the whole personnot only their substance dependencewill produce a positive outcome for the person served, the family, and the community.

The core treatment program focuses on responsibility, accountability, and respect. We make recovery possible by supplying the person served with the tools needed to address their substance dependence, mental health issues and living issues.”

3) 93 Rock, South Florida’s Pure Rock Station (93.1FM in South Florida)

The Rally for Recovery! and InTheRooms.com would like to express their gratitude for these sponsors and are happy to have them be a part of this journey.
