When I was in treatment back in 1982, I was very happy to put on some extra weight because at the time I was emaciated. I actually gained 30 pounds in that treatment center. For the first time in many years, I had an appetite and I wasn’t worried that the food would keep me from getting the best high possible. I came into that treatment center wearing a medium t-shirt and I left wearing an extra large.
I’ve been clean since my first and only white chip on November 19, 1982 and have vigilantly worked my program. I willingly do the right thing no matter how difficult it may seem at the time; today I live my life with integrity. I will say there’s been one area of my life that has been unmanageable and thats in the area of food.
My Father was chronically obese to the point that he had to weigh himself at a local produce wholesaler. We never knew how much he actually weighed. I swore that I would never let myself go like that, and now I’m now looking to lose 75 pounds and continue on my daily path to be not only spiritually healthy, but physically healthy as well.
I know I’m not alone. Looking around meetings, one can readily see that obesity is quite prevalent in the rooms. This is a program of action and I’m going to work on my weight starting today! It’s not important what diet I’m using because frankly I believe that it isn’t the diet but the “one day at a time” approach to the lifestyle. By “telling” on myself, I’ll be answering to you guys! I’ll let you know soon what diet I’m going on but I don’t want to endorse anything until I can see that it works! When I mentioned this idea to RT and TheDotMack, Alex quickly chimed in to “count me in dude”! Our group already has 2 members - how about that! And now I’m asking, do you want to get healthy with us?
Here’s the plan. We’re going to start a weight loss group. The only requirement for joining is a willingness to lose some weight! The name of the group is “Weight Loss In The Rooms”. It makes NO difference what diet that you’re on, this is just to have a place to go to share our experience strength and hope! Let’s do what we do every day in our recovery and support one another to achieve our goal weight.
I’m looking forward to meeting you guys and sharing in our common bonds, and I’m looking to start counting not just how many years our In The Rooms members have under there belt, but the pounds we can shed together (and hopefully move a couple of notches inward on that collective “belt” I just mentioned)!
