New Feature Alert: Blogs

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Submitted by RT on October 20, 2009

For quite some time now, InTheRooms members have always asked us, “Where can I write a blog on InTheRooms?” As part of our commitment to make InTheRooms.com the best online global recovery community in the world, we recently added blogging to the long list of ways an InTheRooms member can express themselves and their recovery.

Our new blogs are attached to everyone’s profile. To start blogging and sharing your personal journal with the community, go to your profile page and click the “Blog” tab. From there you can write posts, delete posts, and view comments left on posts by your friends.

We also added a new tab to the status feed for Blogs, where you can immediately see the latest posts by your friends.  These updates also get posted in the regular feed as well.

We are diligently working to add features to the blogging platform, including the ability to link to other web sites, embed multiple photos, sharing options that will protect everyone’s anonymity, and more.

Please feel free to start writing your heart out - we can only keep what we have by giving it away.

Love,
RT

Introducing the newest member of the ITR Team: DopelessHopeFiend86

InTheRooms would like to introduce to our community, our first ever Fearless (and moral) Superhero Intern Extraordinaire! Stephanie M. has been a member of InTheRooms.com since the beginning of last year and has since taken an active interest in helping the team with the Rally For Recovery, and now is available to help our community on a day-to-day basis.

She also has a personal blog, www.ILoveRecovery.com, updated almost daily with great addiction and recovery news, and personal reflections.

From Steph:

“My name is Steph and I am in recovery. I am about to turn 23 years old in November, and I originate from northern New Jersey. My story is long, and you will be able to read more about it on my blog, but basically I got to the point with my using where I was going to die. The gift of desperation is something I am grateful for - I needed to do something to save my life, and asking for help got me to where I am today.

I have gone through some pretty scary stuff, mainly finding my best friend dead of an overdose in August of 2007, which led to my bottom exactly one year to the date. I live in sunny South Florida, and meeting attendance is a daily occurrence for me. I have about 10 months clean at the moment, and God willing I will pick up 1 year in December.

I love music, art, fashion, and celebrities. I also love recovery. If it wasn’t for meetings and steps I don’t think I would be alive today, much less living in my own apartment with my beautiful partner, going to college, and having an internship at In The Rooms.  Working with the guys here at ITR is an awesome experience and I am gaining knowledge every day that helps my recovery and my future.

Please continue to check in daily for new posts, including music that inspires me, recovery and my relationship, celebrities that struggle with addiction, and various other topics. I also love feedback and ideas for things to talk about. I want to know what interests you guys. Enjoy your recovery today, it is a gift.”

Click here for Steph’s profile and welcome her to the family!

12 Step Meetings & Interviews Now Available on The Radio & Internet

Submitted by Steppin Out Radio on October 20, 2009

Millions of people in the U.S. have been identified as having a substance abuse problem such as alcoholism, drug or sex addiction, abuse of prescription pills, debting, food and nicotine, uncontrolled gambling and many more.  The best and most successful treatment for substance abuse is to attend a 12 step meeting.

But what if they can’t get to a 12-step meeting when they need the help - - or, worse, they are homebound and can never attend one?  Today there is an alternative for these men, women and even teenagers.  And it’s as close as their radio and computer.

Steppin’ Out Radio - - which features true stories of addiction and recovery and is hosted by WABC-TV Sports Anchor Scott Clark - - delivers a 12 step meeting to the airwaves every week on various radio stations across the country.  Steppin’ Out Radio is also heard on the Armed Forces Radio Network in over 180 countries and on all the naval ships, as well as on the web at www.12stepmeeting.com.

Americans are overly stressed as never before.  Every day there is more bad news - - e.g., massive layoffs,  the tanking stock market, companies  going bankrupt.  People are frightened.  As stress levels increase, many turn to substances for relief.  Americans seek to ease their anxiety by over indulging.

Steppin’ Out’s creator, radio veteran Denise McIntee, says: “This show is a radio series that I’m proud to produce.  Riveting talk radio is based on great storytelling - - and we have the best storytellers in the world, the recovering people themselves.  In addition to saving lives, Steppin’ Out is captivating and compelling radio for  individuals in recovery, as well as those individuals not in recovery.  The stories are funny, informative, inspiring, entertaining, fascinating and, best of all, real.  Steppin’ Out is true reality radio.”
