Monkey Mondays on InTheRooms

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Submitted by TheDotMack on January 27, 2010

MrClean and RT have presented me the task of portraying the InTheRooms news in a fair and balanced manner, therefore I feel compelled to commentary on events that prove shape our community’s culture.

This past monday was InTheRooms.com’s first ever “Monkey Monday”. Upon instruction from the creator of “The Monkey Club”, members were directed to change their profile pictures to express their inner “Monkey”.

Some people were just monkeying around. Others expressed their gratitude for getting the monkey off their back. Some members flung things I can’t mention here, and some members were just plain bananas.

“The Monkey Club” founder no_more_no_les hails from the fine town of Medicine Hat, Alberta.  Medicine Hat has a semiarid continental climate, with cold, dry winters and warm to hot summers (as explained by WikiPedia, this may or may not be 100% accurate but I’d like to think it is).

When asked to comment on “Monkey Mondays”, Les simply stated “I think it would be a neat tradition for The Rooms”.

Next week, how many monkeys will be swinging from the branches of the ITR tree? Only time will tell. It is better for me to live in today, than to try to predict the future.

The Story Behind the Sound Pillow

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

I don’t believe in coincidences. I believe God places the right people in our paths, at the right time…

It started with an “out of the blue” phone call from Ronn Jones of Compassionate Heart Ministries. He was in the waiting room at his doctor’s office where he saw our Sound Pillow® ad bestowing the virtues and benefits of the Sound Pillow - a comfortable standard size pillow with two stereo speaker buried deep within the plush pillow. And how the pillow helps folks with Tinnitus; the ringing of the ears for which there is no cure. Ronn was compelled to call me, but “was not certain as to why…”

After speaking, at length, with Mr. Jones about his Tinnitus, the conversation turned to his daughter, a resident of the Darlene Bishop Home for Life; a recovery center for girls. His daughter was finally getting clean after years of heroine addiction that led to prostitution and living on the streets. He then told me about the 20 young ladies at the Home for Life and how they were trying to turn their lives around and about their struggle to sleep…

I was so moved by Ronn’s story, I was compelled to send 20 Sound Pillows to the Darlene Bishop Home for Life, just to see if the pillow would offer them any relief. At the very least, I figured the “Sound Pillow gifts” would let them know a stranger, whom they would never meet, cared about their success in getting clean and their lives back on track… The results? Well they even amazed me. All of the girls were finally sleeping.

The day after my learning about The Home for Life’s residences profound experiences, I received another “out of the blue” phone call from Jon Hollis, radio talk show host of “Holistic Life Styles Radio.” He told me that he and his wife found the Sound Pillow on the web and thought it looked “like an interesting holistic approach to a getting good night’s sleep.” He wanted to know if I had any experience in helping people in addiction recovery. And that it is very common for people in recovery to have restless and sleepless nights’, due to a variety of reasons, including the inability to “turn off the voices or circus in the head.” I then told him about the Darlene Bishop Home for Life. Coincidence…? Well, you know how I feel about coincidences…

Since then, Sound Pillow has been a proud sponsor of the Holistic Lifestyles Radio program and recently the In The Rooms social site. And we are hearing more and more stories about how “Sound Pillow Therapy” represents another way in which the philosophy of holistic healing is used to support the physical, mental and spiritual growth for addicts. And how the Sound Pillow offers a rewarding alternative therapy that can be easily integrated into a client’s lifelong meditative practice to reduce the stresses of life that addicts look to escape.

Please visit www.SoundPillow.com/Recovery to learn more about this unique pillow. And read the actual letter sent to me by Beth Ward, the Director of the Darlene Bishop Home for Life, regarding their experiences. You can also read the letters from two other individuals that are finally getting some rest after year’s of struggling with sleep. And because all of us at Sound Pillow want to assist those in recovery even further, we have added a special button on the Products Page that will automatically provide those in recovery with a $20.00 discount from the retail price. What have you got to loose, but another sleepless night?
