InTheRooms’ First Movie Day featuring “twelve”

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Submitted by MrClean on February 23, 2010

A few months ago, we were approached by a member of InTheRooms.com named Jack Sinclair, who recently produced a movie called “twelve” - about young people and their struggle with addiction and alcoholism.

We liked the movie so much that Jack, InTheRooms, and our friends over at BigStar.TV have decided to stream the movie live to our members this Thursday, February 25, 2010. All InTheRooms members will be able to stream the 45 minute film for free and watch it on thursday, and at 9PM EST we will have a live chat / discussion in InTheRooms chat with the producer and some people featured in the film.

More about “twelve” from 12recovery.com:

Research reveals that by age 12, many of our youth have started experimenting with drugs and alcohol.

By age 16, almost twenty percent are drinking and/or using substances to the level of addiction.

“TWELVE” is the honest, first person testimonial of surviving those years, and for many, surviving the subsequent years of a misunderstood and debilitating substance abuse battle.

“TWELVE” is an emotional, honest and straightforward single story comparing the similarities and problems of so many teens and young adults who firmly believe the life problems and situations they face are theirs and theirs alone where “No one understood” and “No one cared”. Eventually the feelings of, “I was so alone that I just wanted to die” are the only solution.

But “TWELVE” shows how they are not alone. It shares deeper discoveries by these individuals who learned how they are in fact not different from others at their age, that they are like all of the other young people who struggle with this disease and that recovery is indeed possible.

Most importantly, “TWELVE” simply explains that there is a better life in recovery and that the sacrifices of recovery are worth it!

What Kind of Cell Phone do you use? A Preview of InTheRooms Mobile

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Submitted by TheDotMack on February 23, 2010

Our next big project here at InTheRooms.com is developing a way for our members to stay connected from any platform.  We’ve noticed that while many people are fortunate enough to have computers with internet access, a lot of people nowadays are accessing the internet through their mobile phones only.

InTheRooms strives to be on the cutting edge of technology and we get very excited when we use this technology to help our members share their experience, strength, and hope with each other.

InTheRooms Mobile is a very large undertaking. Our goal is to make sure you have the same experience on your cell phone as you do when you log in to InTheRooms.com from your computer. A lot of people have said to us, “When are you making an InTheRooms iPhone App?” While we know this would be very cool, we want to make sure our site is accessible for everyone, not just iPhone users.

Our plan is to develop a mobile web site that is accessible from the iPhone, Blackberry, Android, Palm, Windows Mobile, and… any phone with a basic internet browser.

We need your help. Please leave a comment below telling us what kind of phone you use, and what kinds of features you’d like to use on an InTheRooms mobile website.

Thanks,
TheDotMack

A Brief Overview of ITR

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Submitted by SassySoberGirl on February 23, 2010

Disclaimer: These are not the views of ITR or it’s founders, just some drunk that they want to fill a slot. Or maybe they’re just being lazy this month?

Hmm. Hey there. As an obsessive member of ITR, and pro bono blog writer (may be time for a raise?),  it has been asked of me to write something interesting for this edition of ITR news.  I seem to be particularly inspired to welcome the new folks to this lovely place.  This is my chance to be as informative as I possibly can;  to those just joining or those just simply not freakin’ paying attention.

The men in the loft aka:  “The man who channels the Jewish sounding monkey”, “Bald Clean Guy”, and the “Techno Wonder Dot Kid”; have provided you with the environment to not only connect with others but to do it with a bit of fun.  Working tirelessly to promote events such as “Mad Monkey Mondays” and raffling off free caffeinated beverages, they are tireless in their pursuit to entertain us recovery folk. I believe they may get quite a kick out of us too … RT makes a good monkey no?

As you navigate the wonder that is ITR, you’ll find limitless ways to express yourself. There are vast  social groups such as:  “3 Things Going For Us: Gay,  Sober, and Texan” to  “Control Freaks of the World Unite” to “Want to Cyber?” and even the ever popular,  “A Place for Dumping Crap” (yes they are all valid groups go check).  Here at the ITR ranch you can find just about any type of socializin’ group you can think of under the sober sun to post your stories or tell jokes or even just … dump your crap.

Daily messages from TeleJeff remind us when to take a shower or what time lunch is. Love you Jeff and your trips to Wal Mart too.  Member status’ across profile pages can provide laughter or more opportunities to help the still suffering. Speaking of suffering,  if you like arguments and some plain ole’ fashioned name callin’, hop onto our ever popular discussion boards. There you’ll find hot blooded AA vs. NA debates that would make the founding fathers “proud” that people care so much about their recovery.

Online meetings are held almost daily in ITR chat.  That brings us to the topic of the chatroom. Like a meeting after the meeting, in a dark parking lot, by a bunch of really really sick people - sorry kids but you know I’m not lyin. But, when push comes to shove and you wanna use, people will talk to you there.  If you can get some of the cyber freaks to shush. Which we can do … under duress.  Anytime of the day or night you can find drunks and dope fiends willing to help you through the tough times. Or maybe you need to “give back”? Plenty of sickies in there. Have at it. Trust me they need the help. Wait. I hang out there.  Moving along.

All in all, ITR provides idiots such as myself a place to belong. Where people “get it” and provide wisdom, love, and support for anyone who has the gonads to ask. There are no strangers here.  Well except for one … PerfectStranger who entertains us all on his profile page by playing “Match Game” and  his amazing 500 hit threads.  Come on now you know you all look. Rubberneckers. Anyway. We’re glad you’re here. You’ll find what you’re lookin’ for if recovery is what you’re after.

I could go on and on and on; about the new A-List: services by sober people for sober people or “marketing recovery style”, the DotMack uber computer guy is hooking us up with the ITR phone application - as if I wasn’t obsessed enough, and the list keeps goin’.  Go see for yourself. You’ll be addicted in no time.

Now. Everything said here is served with a grain of salt people. Please, please, please take issue with me and post something rude and sarcastic on my profile page or the ITR blogsite iloverecovery. That’s where I kick it. Everyone needs a heckler or fifty you know. That’s the service I provide here at ITR. Sassiness at a “very” cheap price. Now fellas about that raise…

Webcast of the movie “Twelve” on InTheRooms.com

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Submitted by Jack_S on February 18, 2010

My name is Jack S, I am an active member of InTheRooms.com and my sobriety date is May 25, 1982.

I started working with young people at our local 12 step clubhouse over 10 years ago and as a result, I witnessed what I call modern day miracles. This experience gave me the inspiration to produce a film about young people seeking recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. I started working on TWELVE in March, 2005 and completed production in late 2008. I never did anything like make a film in my life, so I am somewhat of an accidental film maker.

My passion is to help young people find a better way of life through this process called Recovery. We tried to create a video that the youth could actually relate to and trust the message. You know that none of us trust authority figures! I think we accomplished this by interviewing 20 young alcoholic/addicts who all got sober as teenagers and they share their experience, strength and hope. We want to gain and hold the attention of the wandering young addicted mind! We use a cool and hip MTV type presentation of intertwining clips to show and tell the lives of young people that have been there and done that. These are real life stories of youth talking TRUTH to other youth—the most effective method of communications. (we discovered)

KaBOOM we have made something that is gaining the applause of adolescent and young adult audiences nationwide.

Please join us on www.intherooms.com for a sneak preview of  “12, is there life after rehab in recovery?” all day on Thursday February 25th and then a live interview with cast members and producers following webcast in the InTheRooms Chatroom at 10:00PM EST. BE THERE!!

The webcast is brought to you by InTheRooms.com and our friends at BigStar.TV - THE source for watching independent films online.
